Grand Canyon Airlines

Reserve a tourOriginally started in 1927 as the first company to offer areal tourism at the Grand Canyon, Grand Canyon Airlines (GCA) stands out from other carriers because of its history, all-inclusive packages and its mode of transportation: fixed wing aircraft. Offering tours that leave from Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, and Paige, AZ, this company offers unprecedented views of some of the most beautiful scenery this country has to offer.

Grand Canyon Airlines Features & Amenities

  • One of the world’s oldest and most experienced airplane tour companies, in continuous operation since 1927.
  • Features a fleet of ultra-quiet Vistaliner aircraft, designed to seat 17 people comfortably.
  • Planes feature high-wing position and panoramic windows.
  • Multi-lingual, digital narration system and headphones offered to every patron on every flight.
  • Two professional pilots aboard every flight.
  • The popular Grand Canyon River Adventure tour, which lasts 12.5 hours, is one of Trip Advisor’s highest rated of all Grand Canyon tours in terms of its beauty, overall experience and customer service.

GCA has been in the airplane tourism industry longer than most of the competition combined. Over the years, they have voluntarily upgraded their aircraft and equipment not only in the interest of passenger experience, but also in the interest of the Canyon itself. GCA has expanded its fleet to Vistaliner aircraft in an effort to reduce air traffic and noise output over the Canyon while still providing an amazing panoramic view to all passengers, regardless of their seat.

Advantages of Grand Canyon Airlines

  • Flying in fixed-wing aircraft versus rotor-winged helicopters provides for a quieter, smoother ride.
  • The company flies out of the Las Vegas area (Boulder City) and the Grand Canyon itself as well as offering tours of the Lake Powell and Rainbow Bridge out of Paige, AZ.
  • Operates out of its own, private terminal at the Grand Canyon which includes a museum and restrooms.
  • Offers tourists a set menu or buffet meal on longer tours, not just boxed lunches.
  • Combination tours offer guests the opportunity to see the Canyon by air, by land and by water (rafting on the Colorado River) all in one day.

Disadvantages of Grand Canyon Airlines

  • Because of the special conditions needed with fixed-wing aircraft, there are only three different tour options available at the Grand Canyon.
  • Tour options are either extremely short (45-50 minutes for the Grand Discovery Tour) or all day long (12.5 hours for the Grand Canyon River Adventure or Smooth Water Float Trip)
  • There are no toilet facilities onboard the plane.
