Sundance Helicopters

Sundance Helicopters has been serving the Las Vegas area since 1985. As one of the oldest helicopter tour companies in the southwest, they have perfected the experience of areal tourism and customer service alike. They offer fully narrated Grand Canyon helicopter tours leaving from Las Vegas and travelling over Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam before arriving at the Canyon.

Sundance Helicopters Features & Amenities

  • Two different helicopter models are offered. The newer EC-130 models are 23% larger than the older A-Star models, offering more room and accommodating up to 7 passengers (most other companies will fit 8 into this model).
  • Two-time winner of the FAA’s Diamond Award, which is given each year for excellent aircraft maintenance.
  • Nevada Magazine has voted Sundance the “Best Helicopter Company in Nevada” for the past 7 years.
  • Choose from 15 different tour packages.

Sundance Helicopters has been operating out of Las Vegas’ McCarran International airport since 1985. It specializes in Grand Canyon helicopter tours from the Vegas area and stands out as the pinnacle of the luxury tour experience. Sundance is the only tour company to offer curbside limo pick-up and drop-off to and from your hotel in Vegas. Though it does have some issues with communication when flights are cancelled, the overall experience of Sundance is hard to beat.

Advantages of Sundance Helicopters

  • Personal pick-up at your Las Vegas hotel via luxury stretch limo.
  • Fleet of 23 helicopters is the largest in Nevada, which allows Sundance to offer several, staggered departure times and over a dozen different tours each day.
  • DVD of your trip is included in the price of certain packages.
  • Several different Grand Canyon packages offer the opportunity to raft down the Colorado River, take a boat ride in Lake Mead, see the Grand Canyon from its famous Skywalk, or tour Vegas at night.
  • Pilots determine seating via a coin flip (giving equal chance to everyone) and rotate seats halfway through the tour.

Disadvantages of Sundance Helicopters

  • Only departures for Grand Canyon tours are from Las Vegas.
  • Passengers over 300 pound weight limit must purchase a full-price second seat; larger and taller clientele are generally more comfortable in larger and more expensive EC-130 (Eco-Star) helicopters.
  • Cancellation process is not always customer-friendly. Many clients felt they were not properly informed of cancellations to their trip due to maintenance or weather issues.
  • The limo ride is not private unless specifically booked as such (for additional cost). Generally, up to 8 people travel in each limo both to and from the landing strip.
